About Mark Roberts

Mark Roberts began his coaching career at Niwot in 1987, while a student at CU, as an assistant track coach for Bob Banning (current Silver Creek head boys' basketball coach), and took over as head coach after two years when Bob took over the head boys' basketball job. Mark coached track, basketball, and one year of football at Niwot before taking a teaching position at Lyons in the fall of 1992. He coached football, basketball and track for 5 years before starting the Lyons' cross country program, and spent the next 26 years as the cross country and track coach. Lyons won 18 state titles and had 20 runner-up finishes between boys and girls cross country and boys and girls track during that time. Mark has been the meet director and announcer for cross country and track meets for many years, most notably the St. Vrain Inv. X-Ctry meet in Lyons in the fall and the St. Vrain Inv. track meet at Longmont HS in the spring. Mark was inducted into the Colorado High School Coaches Hall of Fame in 2022. Mark and Kim are the parents of 10 (and grandparents of 9 and counting), and the oldest 7 all ran at Lyons. 5 of the 7 ran (or are running) collegiately. The youngest 3 also started at Lyons and currently run at Resurrection Christian School where Mark taught this past year and is the head cross country and assistant track coach. He is excited to be joining former student and athlete, Johnny Baisley, and NoCo Performance!
